Come and “investigate”, with
Brilliance Academy’s Kindergartners!
This kindergarten class explores
learning in many different ways.
During this time in the child’s
development, their motor skills
begin to become a great deal more
refined and they are ready for brand
new challenges that may not have
been possible at younger ages. We
give the children plenty of
opportunities to use these new found
motor skills through the exploration
and investigation of their
environment. Each day the children
walk into class ready to develop
concepts of counting, patterning,
place value, time, money, days,
weeks and months of the year.
Even more important to take into
count as your child progresses
through Kindergarten is their new
found sense of independence and
confidence in their abilities. At
the Brilliance Preschool and
Academy, we use these new
developments in children to design
our program in an increasingly
independent way. Children are given
the opportunity to expand upon
their, by now, well honed group and
social skills to begin taking on
assignments by themselves. Their
success in these simple assignments
can even further instill feelings of
independence and confidence in your
child. By learning to follow more
specific and important rules,
children are taught to use their new
found independence in a positive
way.
In language skills, the children
learn to write independently and
develop their phonics skills. The
children learn these skills through
songs and repetition of the
alphabet. Special sounds are
presented and blending is introduced
to form new words. Shared reading
and group reading also helps
children gain understanding through
visual text. The A Beka curriculum
is used along with the relevant
workbooks. In addition, your child
will begin to take a more personal
approach to language skills by
learning how to read and write their
first and last name. They will even
begin to learn how to include their
name in their own stories and
construct larger sentences to
further express themselves.
In math, your child is ready to
expand their working “number
vocabulary” to include the numbers.
We also begin to teach students how
to add and subtract by using
physical objects with which they can
interact. For example, your child
may learn to subtract 3 from 5 by
removing 3 of the 5 toys placed in
front of them. This simple approach
to mathematics allows the child to
see and explore basic equations by
further interacting with the
contents of their environment. The
progress that your child makes in
the recognition and ordering of
shapes during earlier programs will
be expanded upon through the
introduction of basic geometrical
exploration.
Children experiment with art methods
and materials by expressing
individual thoughts and feelings
through the making of pictures,
modeling, construction and painting.
The students also learn many things
in Spanish like numbers, days of the
week, months of the year, simple
greetings and names of objects. In
physical health, they begin to learn
the basics of nutrition and the ways
in which their bodies work to
perform activities and functions. On
the same note, they will learn how
to better understand how their
senses work to investigate their
world of animals, weather and
plants. As a basic approach to
social studies, children will learn
about the various holidays and
historical figures that have
influenced their country, world and
locality.
Good manners, confidence, and
respect are of utmost importance to
our program and are promoted on a
daily basis through positive
activities and interactions with
their fellow classmates and
teachers. Every part of the
education process employed by the
Brilliance Preschool & Academy
revolves around the development of
these important traits. With proper
manners, respect and confidence,
further learning may prove difficult
for any child. While they will learn
many new things about themselves and
their surroundings, positive
interactions will ensure their
success in our future programs and
your child’s function in an ever
changing and often surprising world. |
